The New Camaro Is Here | John Hirsch’s Cambridge Motors

You may’ve heard by now, but the new Camaro has arrived. The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro rolled off the assembly line in Lansing, Michigan just a few days ago. Sports car, automobile, and Chevrolet enthusiasts alike are getting excited about the new Camaro, and so should you. Today, John Hirsch’s Cambridge Motors is going to give you a brief overview of the new Chevrolet Camaro.

For starters, it’s built from a totally different platform. Previously, the Camaro say atop GM’s Zeta platform. The vehicle looks similar, but is instead built on top of GM’s Alpha platform, the same platform that GM uses for the Cadillac ATS and CTS models. Now, the underbody pieces are completely different, and now interchangeable.

The standard engine is the first of its kind in 30 years. The entry-level LT model comes standard with a four-cylinder engine. It’s the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine borrowed from the ATS. Now, the Camaro puts out 270 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque, which is roughly triple the power of the engine placed in the 1982-1986 models.

Perhaps most cool is that the new Camaro features a roof that is laser-welded. No, this isn’t some space-age alien ship, it’s how the new Camaro is built. It’s a small detail that really enhances the vehicle’s aesthetics. Most vehicles are MIG-welded, which leaves a seam, which is then filled by a plastic strip. Laser welded seams on the Camaro ensure a tight, smooth, and crisp seam.

The new Camaro is here. Are you ready for yours?
